Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7

You've got tons of important stuff on your computer: Years of photos, thousands of songs, that book you've been writing. Don't jeopardize it - or your own personal information - by using outdated anti-virus software. The CNET editors just gave Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7 an Editors' Choice award because it's fast, effective, easy to use, and light on system resources. It provides email protection, scans all Internet traffic in real time (no matter which browser you use) and prevents criminals from harvesting your data. And you can get it for less than $60.

Apple iLife '08

The just-released iLife '08 is loaded with updates to iPhoto, iWeb, iMovie, GarageBand, and iDVD. The new iWeb makes it easy to put nifty Web 2.0 widgets on your site, not to mention some Google AdSense ads (an effortless way to make a few bucks off your site). The new GarageBand lets you assemble a virtual band, add your own voice, and even print sheet music. The latest version of iMovie makes it easy to upload your movies to YouTube, and watch your masterpieces on your iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV. And the new iDVD helps you burn better quality videos faster than ever before. Note: You'll need Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later.

Trend Micro Internet Security 2007

In the September issue of Consumer Reports, you'll find the answers to all life's important questions, from "What's the best microwave popcorn?" (Orville Redenbacher's Light Butter) to "What's the best security software?" The editors rated software suites and individual antivirus, antispyware, and antispam programs, and the winner in all 4 categories was Trend Micro Internet Security 2007. If one $40 program will protect us from hackers, viruses, spyware, adware, wireless network invasions, and phishing scams, we're sold. More internet security software.

Windows Vista

Certain Best Buy, Circuit City, and Comp USA stores are having Windows Vista parties tonight, staying open after midnight for customers who need to buy Vista the very minute the new software becomes available. Apparently Microsoft thinks Vista, with its enhanced graphic capabilities and improved system performance features, is as hot as the PS3 or a new Harry Potter book. But why stand in line at a box store at midnight when you can order Vista (and this Windows Vista for Dummies quick reference guide) online?

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8

"Dear John: It's over. I've had it up to here with you. I'd call you to tell you we're through, but you're not worth my time. Instead I'm using Dragon NatuallySpeaking 8. This nifty piece of software can turn my words into text a lot faster than I can type (it can do 160 words a minute), plus I can use it to surf the web without lifting a finger. (Not lifting a finger - sound familiar?) Have a nice life."
