"Outstanding camera, but will become better as P2 technology improves"
Pros: Image quality, supports 720p and 1080i HD resolutions, quick transfers by P2 PCMCIA cards, Good Leica wide lens
Cons: P2 cards remain pricey and relatively small, fixed lens, does not support 1080p HD resolution
Summary: I recently used this camera for a weekend shoot. It supports most HD formats and has outstanding image quality. The P2 system still has its quirks, but Panasonic has been doing a good job smoothing those out. Unfortunately the camera only accepts two P2 cards and they are fairly expensive and do not store 'enough' HD footage. The most youll be able to shoot at any given time in 1080i mode is about 25 min which won't suffice for many professionals. Many people think this camera is too expensive, however, compared to comparable HD cameras, the HVX is an absolute bargain. This camera does not and should not be compared to anything which uses HDV. The DVCPro HD footage is a truer HD image and preserves the color information better (i.e. green screen footage is outstanding). The P2 technology is relatively new and as it becomes better, the prices should drop and the card sizes should increase.

Im an Enthusiast not a pro. Ive been shooting and editing videos since 2000
My previous camcorder was a Panasonic AG-DVC30. I sold it and Im putting together the money to buy this AG-HVX200, but I have to work hard for it so Im worry about the P2 technology.
I dont think that its expensive but like I said Im working hard to put the money together to buy the cam
My concern its that after I get the camcorder I need to wait for a wile after that put some more money together for the P2 cards. So you now the camcorder because you already own it
So want to now if I will be able to record video with out the P2 cards? (Like the AG-DVX100B in the tape)
And the shooting time on the P2 cards its short its that true or how it is in real life?
And if you guys that are pros can give me any advice I will appreciated
Thanks -
This camera supports 1080 24p and 1080 30p. What do you mean doesn't support 1080p resolution? Do you mean 1080 60p??? Is 60p even necessary??
I agree that this camera will be better if P2 becomes cheaper. Right now the capacity is way too small and insanely expensive. Although recording directly onto a laptop via firewire sounds like an interesting option.. (this would of course have pros and cons) Still haven't had the privilege of using this camera myself....
