The Confessions Tour - Live from London (CD+DVD)
The world can't get enough of Madonna, and with CD/DVD sets like The Confessions Tour dropping regularly, it's little wonder why. As a thrower of fantasy dance parties, she is peerless. As a physical role model for the 40-ish women who grew up on her music, she rules. And as an arbiter of what's going to sound shockingly original in any given decade--well, duh. The Confessions Tour rounds up songs from way back--"Ray of Light" and "La Isla Bonita" make the DVD, and "Lucky Star" and "Like a Virgin" are on the CD as well as the DVD--but this concert, filmed in 2006 at London's Wembley Arena, aims its sturdiest spotlight on Confessions on a Dance Floor, Madge's 2005 disco disc. You could argue, then, that unless you're in it for the sheer DVD spectacle (and what a spectacle it is), there's no sense in owning this package. Only you wouldn't be right. Because as any on-the-ball Madonna fan knows, what she's doing musically is telling a story--you may already know the characters, but that doesn't mean she hasn't completely reworked the plot. To that end, "I Love New York" gets its rock on, "Let It Will Be" has a musical temper tantrum, and "Hung Up" goes for the drama queen award. You've heard these songs before, but you've never heard them quite like this, to borrow a bad informercial phrase. As twisted and hopped-up as they've become, they're all worth getting to know again. --Tammy La Gorce

Confessions
A CD is always more compelling when you know it's lifted from the artist's autobiography, and that's certainly the case with Confession, Usher's first record since 2001's 8701. The Atlanta singer's string of hits over the past decade have been decidedly PG-13 rated, almost veering towards teen pop, but he's changed all that on this co-produced offering, which he claims is "the real him." It would be too simplistic to just brand this record a break-up record, chronicling his public split with TLC's Rozonda "Chili" Thomas; it is that, but so much more. It would be more accurate to call this Usher's coming of age record, bridging the gap from boy to man, as he navigates the emotional fallout from the disintegration of his relationship, and the events that led up to it--real or imagined. But other than a guilty conscience, it seems unclear why Usher feels compelled to disgorge his secret life, as he documents his infidelities, transgressions, and emotional perfidy in the album's prodigious twenty one songs, that range from insinuating sultry R&B grooves to the decidedly crunky "Yeah," which pairs an insistent keyboard romp with Lil' Jon's assertive beats, and Ludacris' rather humid rhymes. --Jaan Uhelszki

The Eighth Pillar (a Confession Of Faith)
We are proud to present a vinyl gem for the first time on CD. The Eighth Pillar was the first full-length Con-Dom release. The CD is inspired by the life, writings and example of British author and "man of action" T.E. Lawrence - an enigmatic outsider who lived a tortured odyssey of physical and spiritual extremes in search of his own personal faith. The name of the CD derives from his book called "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom." With these recordings, Mike Dando, the man behind Con-Dom, set high standards in a genre that was just starting to arise. The powerful sounds and his strong voice give a good impression on how torturing the life of Lawrence must have been. Con-Dom explores every kind of social tension and control: political, religious, radical...with an acidic, violent and uncompromising attitude. He is well-known in the industrial scene for his furious ravaging vocals and the devastating live performances, in which he turns into a real stage animal..

True Confessions-Singles A's & B's
Import only two CD collection from the Irish Punk popsters. It has been 33 years since The Undertones ripped a Derry-shaped hole in the public consciousness with 'Teenage Kicks', a perfectly crafted Pop/Punk-straddling tour de force and, notably, John Peel's favorite ever song. Though their debut set the bar impossibly high, the hits didn't stop there: True Confessions catalogs all of the band's singles from 'Teenage Kicks' to 'Jimmy Jimmy', 'My Perfect Cousin' to 'Here Comes The Summer' and more, together with all their fantastic B-sides. In total, 13 singles were released by the band between September 1978 and May 1983. Four were Top 20 hits, but surprisingly (given its truly seminal status) the most famous Undertones single ,'Teenage Kicks', only staggered to the relatively modest heights of #31. Not a lot of people know that. It is a more widely acknowledged fact, of course, that singles are the currency of pop. The Undertones understood that as well as any band. Enjoy individually or irresponsibly! 32 slabs of brilliance. Salvo.
