Hollywood Ending
Canadian rock act Age of Daze searched far and wide to find the right people for their latest recording project- literally. The band's sophomore album was conceived and recorded from one end of the country, to the other. "We're a genuine east coast band. We all grew up in New Brunswick and we all live here, but I don't think we fit the east coast music model per se," surmises bassist Matt McLaughlin. "Not that there's anything wrong with that, its just that we are not what people expect in an east coast band ." One listen to AOD's latest CD "Hollywood Ending" will affirm that statement. Leaning more towards the polished hard rock sounds of Three Days Grace and Hinder than the roots oriented sound that defines the regional music scene, the band has no problem admitting their desire for success outside the region. "We've always had bigger goals for the band," explains vocalist Tim Morrison. "You have to aim high and work towards those goals. We've decided that this is what we want to do, and we are going to do it, no matter what." This determination led the band to Toronto's Pocket Studios and Our Lady Peace founder Mike Turner in the fall of 2005. Turner produced the band's first self-titled EP, a recording that yielded three national radio singles, including the band's Top 75 song "Fuel". "I think the success of the first record, convinced us that we were on the right track," continues Morrison. "It also forced us to learn more about the music business, where we were completely self-managed and financed." The success of the EP also earned the band opening spots for Collective Soul and Juno-nominated rockers Hedley. 1 Afflicted2 Change Everything3 Believe4 Overrated5 Can't Live (In the Moment)6 Thought You Should Know7 Cure For You8 Believe (Acoustic)

Hollywood Science: Movies, Science, and the End of the World
Whether depicting humans battling aliens or a brave geologist saving lives as a volcano erupts, science-fiction films are an exciting visual and sensuous introduction to the workings of science and technology. These films explore a range of complex topics in vivid and accessible ways, from space travel and laser technology to genetic engineering, global warming, and the consequences of nuclear weaponry. Though actual scientific lab work might not be as exciting, science fiction is an engaging yet powerful way for a wide audience to explore some of the most pressing issues and ideas of our time.In this book, a scientist and dedicated film enthusiast discusses the portrayal of science in more than one hundred films, including science fiction, scientific biographies, and documentaries. Beginning with early films like Voyage to the Moon and Metropolis and concluding with more recent offerings like The Matrix, War of the Worlds, A Beautiful Mind, and An Inconvenient Truth, Sidney Perkowitz questions how much faith we can put into Hollywood's depiction of scientists and their work; how accurately these films capture scientific fact and theory; whether cataclysms like our collision with a comet can actually happen; and to what extent these films influence public opinion about science and the future. Movies, especially science-fiction films, temporarily remove viewers from the world as they know it and show them the world as it might be, providing special perspective on human nature and society. Yet "Hollywood science" can be erroneous, distorting fact for dramatic effect and stereotyping scientists as remote and nerdy, evil, or noble, doing little to improve the relationship between science and society. Bringing together history, scientific theory, and humorous observation, Hollywood Science features dozens of film stills and a list of the all-time best and worst science-fiction movies. Just as this genre appeals to all types of viewers, this book will resonate with anyone who has been inspired by science-fiction films and would like to learn how fantasy compares to fact. (1/28/08)

Hollywood Ending

Laurel End Table
Designer: Angelo Surmelis. "When I was designing the Laurel Collection I was day dreaming of Hollywood. I dont know if this Hollywood ever really existed or if it just seemed like it did in the old black and white movies I watched as a kid. Either way it seems like it used to be a pretty glamorous place. Our lives are certainly less than glamorous today but a little bit of that nostalgia can go a long way in a room. The Laurel Collection is a modern day nod to a bit of deco a bit of polish and a lot of style. With its jewelry inspired hardware and its two-tone facade its just the right amount of chic for your bedroom living room or guest room without being too stuffy. Hurray for Hollywood!" -angelo surmelis - 18.75" W x 18.75" D x 23.5" H - One drawer measures 12.75" W x 12.25" D x 7.25" H - Storage shelf under table measures 13.75" W x 13.75" D x 8.25" H - Area under storage shelf measures 13.75" W x 13.75" D x 4.25" H - Weathered oak finish - Antique brass ring pull - Decorative raised panel drawer front - Constructed of solid oak with MDF and PB with ash veneers - Max weight capacity 200 lbs -Assembly required

Play to the End
Once Toby Flood played a Bond-like hero in a Hollywood film. Now he’s serving a sentence in a crippled traveling production of a newly unearthed Joe Orton play—a play that might have saved Toby’s career if only someone enjoyed watching it. Painfully, the show’s swan song is coming in Brighton, where Toby’s wife happens to be living happily with another man in anticipation of a divorce decree. Then, almost as if he were scripted, a stranger enters the scene....A stalker is frightening Toby’s wife, Jenny, who believes the man is probably one of her estranged husband’s fans. When Jenny asks Toby to confront the man, Toby leaps at the chance. Soon, he’s moonlighting from the stage lights and heroically pursuing... something. The truth is, the more Toby finds out about Jenny’s stalker, the more questions he has about a twisting tale of unexplained deaths, interlocking lives, and the violent, greedy adventures of none other than Jenny’s wealthy fiancé—a man who might make the perfect villain, if only the hero lives long enough to prove it....
