Although some spectacular explosions occur in the battles with the Ninth and Tenth Angels, the remix is often most effective in quiet moments. When Misato steps out into the rain, the sound of the falling water envelopes the room. Shinji, Rei and Asuka are caught away from the base during a power outage and have to travel through ventilation ducts to NERV headquarters: the listener can follow their progress through metal tubes. As the extras, which include a discussion of the changes in sound technology, are the only new footage, the "Platinum" discs are really for viewers who've installed a 5.1 system, but who don't already have Anno's watershed series.
