Day & Age
Four years after the release of their landmark debut in 2004, MTV VMA Award-winning, Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum Island Records group The Killers have completed their fourth album - and first new studio album in two years - DAY & AGE, featuring the new single, "Human" debuting worldwide September 22nd, while the digital single will be released September 30th. The new album hits stores November 25th - two days before Thanksgiving. DAY & AGE was produced by Stuart Price, a key figure in electronic music (Les Rhythmes Digitales) who previously worked with The Killers on "Don't Shoot Me Santa," their 2007 Christmas single; as well as music on their 2007 compilation, Sawdust. Over the past five years, Price has worked as a producer, mixer, programmer, and keyboardist, including The Killers' "Mr Brightside" remix which was Grammy Nominated. The Killers - Brandon Flowers on vocals and keyboards, guitarist David Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci - found time to complete their new album while also wrapping up their biggest summer rock festival season in the U.S. and abroad. Historic headlining gigs at England's prestigious Leeds and Reading fests coincided with an appearance on the cover of NME's August 8th issue. Earlier in 2008, the Killers took home top honors for Best Band of the Year and Best Track of the Year ("Tranquilize") at the annual NME Awards USA gala, at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on April 23rd. DAY & AGE comes one year after the release of Sawdust (November 2007), a 17-song collection of previously unreleased session tracks, B-sides, rarities and one-offs. The album was assembled at a recording studio in New York's Hell's Kitchen, where the Killers worked with Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer Lou Reed two recordings. Two singles and videos were issued: "Shadowplay" (from the motion picture soundtrack of Control, Anton Corbijn's biopic of Ian Curtis), and "Tranquilize". The Killers' RIAA platinum second album Sam's Town (October 2006) debuted at #2 and spun off two hit singles: the #1 Modern Rock "When You Were Young," nominated for Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Short Form Music Video; and "Read My Mind," the band's first #1 at Triple-A. Their worldwide 5 million-selling debut Hot Fuss (June 2004) was the longest-running rock album inside the top 50 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for all of 2005, logging 94 weeks on the chart - 53 of those inside the Top 50. The album spun off four solid hit singles - the Grammy-nominated anthem, "Somebody Told Me," the VMA-winning (and Grammy-nominated) "Mr. Brightside," the Modern rock hit "Smile Like You Mean It," and the Grammy-nominated "All These Things That I've Done."

Age of Aquarius
Age of Aquarius
Revolution Renaissance, the new band of the Stratovarius mastermind Timo Tolkki has signed a worldwide deal for one album with Scarlet Records. The last weeks have kept Tolkki and his band members busy putting finishing touches to the band's first real debut album entitled `Age Of Aquarius'. Recorded over three months in Finland, it is by far the darkest, heaviest and most symphonic album that Tolkki has ever been involved in. Finding a close connection with his new band members Gus Monsanto and Bruno Agra, the trio locked itself in a cabin in Finland for a month and composed ten new songs. It is the first time during Tolkki's career that he shared the whole songwriting process with other band members. "I just felt this incredibly fresh vibe with these guys and the songs were just flowing. It was so natural process that it almost felt like the songs were already composed and we just let them be born. It was possible because in Gus and Bruno I finally have found the kindred spirits I have been looking for so long. The results were something that none of us were expecting and yet at the same time, we felt that this record is exactly the way it is supposed to be", comments Tolkki. It is very difficult to describe the style of the music Revolution Renaissance is playing. There are a lot of trademarks from Tolkki's Stratovarius days, his guitar solos are more aggressive and fast than in years, the production is monumental and is enhanced by Agras orchestral arrangements. Gus Monsanto's emotional voice varies from silent whisper to Ronnie James Dioesque power giving the music a new face. There is a lot of drama on "Age Of Aquarius" album. Basically the album consists of three parts: In the first part "Age Of Aquarius", "Sins of my beloved" and "Ixion's Wheel" are more in the vein of traditional melodic heavy rock/metal, "Behind the Mask" was a song composed by Agra/Monsanto and they suggested Tolkki to try this song so lots of different arrangements were tried, but the end result is very close to the original version. It might come as a total surprise to many Tolkki fans, but it has it's distinguished place on the album and a bit of a message too. "Ghost of Fallen Grace" acts as a beautiful and impressive bridge to three songs that are perhaps the biggest, darkest and most emotional during Tolkki's career: "Heart of All", "So She Wears Black" and "Kyrie Eleison" (Greek language, meaning "Lord have mercy"). The production of these three songs extends far beyond the limits of what is considered to be a standard heavy rock/metal album. Filled with huge orchestral orchestrations of Agra, blistering leads of Tolkki, emotional vocals of Monsanto, punchy crystal clear and powerful drums of Agra, tasteful keyboard texturing of Khalilov up to the solid groundwork of Biggs, "Age of Aquarius" is definitely mixture of something old and something new. The album finishes with and optimistic anthem "Into the Future", with its Celtic influences gives the album a positive and bright expectation of the years to come for this band. Revolution Renaissance was already chosen as a "Band of the Year" by a Brazilian magazine Whiplash. The tours are currently been booked for an extensive World Tour.

"Wipeout", "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", "Toad", "Soul Sacrifice"-- these recordings became the cornerstones of rock drumming and, thanks to Hudson Music, they are among the many legendary performances contained on the new DVD release, "Classic Rock Drum Solos". Hosted by rock drumming legend and historian, Carmine Appice, "Classic Rock Drum Solos" is a comprehensive collection of rock drum solos; tracing the development of the phenomenon with vintage footage of pioneers from the 1940's and 50's, rare film from the golden age of the 60's and awe-inspiring video of the pyrotechnic players of the 70's and 80's."Before I ever touched a pair of drumsticks or knew what a snare drum was, I saw 'The Gene Krupa Story'," recalls modern drumming icon, Neil Peart. "Krupa's showmanship and rhythmic grace shined a spotlight on the drums and the drum solo and I remember thinking, 'I wanna do that!'"I was totally influenced by Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich," says Vanilla Fudge's Carmine Appice, who was also inspired by the drum solos of Louie Bellson, Max Roach, Joe Morello, Sonny Payne, Roy Haynes, Art Blakey, Jack DeJohnette and Tony Williams. "I got speed, showmanship, the concept of melodic playing and a lot of other great ideas from the jazz masters."By the mid 1950's, however, new forms of popular music were being created by a new generation of musicians. Along with the baby boomers came Rock 'N' Roll music, Rock'N' Roll drumming and a new, even more spectacular type of drum solo.In discussing the details of his performance on the disc, Michael Shrieve (Santana) recalls, "Well, it was shot at the Woodstock Festival (August 1969), which was pretty incredible. The thing that most people don't realize is that when Santana played at Woodstock we didn't even have a record out, so it was amazing that we were able to win the crowd over like we did. But, we played that show like we played all our shows with lots of intensity and passion."It wasn't until a year later, when the Woodstock film came out and we were on the road in New York City that we were able to see the movie. We went as a group and stood in line with everybody else. As the showing before ours let out, people who had just seen the film were pointing at us in the line and whispering to each other."We went in to see the show and we had no idea what they had from our performance in the film. When 'Soul Sacrifice' came on we were shocked to see ourselves on the big screen with all those great musicians who played the festival. And then, when my drum solo came on and I was split into 6 of me on the screen (edited by Martin Scorsese, by the way), I didn't know whether to stand up and scream or sink down into my chair. I believe I sunk down into my chair. That was it. Our first record was out and the film shot us right to the top."Danny Seraphine's (Chicago) performance of "I'm A Man" on the DVD is from a German TV show in 1970. "However", he explains, "'I'm A Man' didn't have a drum solo when we were first playing it in bars around Chicago. It became a drum feature when we were recording our first album in 1969, back when we were still known as the Chicago Transit Authority. We were finishing up the CTA album and decided to make it a double record set. We needed more music and we needed it fast, so we decided to pull out 'I'm a Man' and add a drum solo-- which was put together on the spot. Soloing against the percussion instruments was a lot of fun and helped keep the groove going. I remember I tried to keep the solo short and to the point."While his exuberant performance with Journey is just one of the many highlights on the Classic Rock Solos DVD, as a player who has stretched the limits of contemporary jazz and rock drumming throughout his career, Steve Smith offers an additional perspective on the subject of drum solos."Being able to solo well is an important part of being a complete musician," says the Modern Drummer Hall Of Fame member. "Some rock drummers compose a solo and perform it the
