Taking Back Sunday
Taking Back Sunday
This is the record that a lot of people never thought would happen: A brand new Taking Back Sunday album that features the same line-up as the band's platinum-selling 2002 debut Tell All Your Friends. Although the players here - frontman Adam Lazzara, guitarists Eddie Reyes and John Nolan, drummer Mark O'Connell and bassist Shaun Cooper - are the same, it's important to point out that this album isn't a sequel to this band's debut as much as it is the beginning of a new chapter of innovation and productivity from this celebrated Long Island rock act. What began with the simple idea of all five members coming together at the Sonic Ranch in the border town of Tornillo, Texas (near El Paso), last year quickly resulted in a sonic windfall that saw the band writing nearly a dozen songs - and from there Taking Back Sunday never looked back. "The whole experience of us getting back together was really freeing," Lazzara explains. "We went into all of this knowing that our music didn't have to sound a certain way, so we just decided to see what happens and this is what came of it." Nolan adds, "I think we all knew that we had to take this band to a place where it hadn't been before for it to really work; it couldn't all be about nostalgia."Let's face it, it would be simple for Taking Back Sunday to get back together solely in order to embark on an anniversary tour for Tell All Your Friends, but despite their previous successes they are quick to point out this record is a brand new beast that is ushering in a different era for the band. "This album isn't us trying to be something we're not," Lazzara summarizes, "it's just us and I'm really proud of that." If you listen to Taking Back Sunday with an open mind, you'll agree that it is an important record that marks a giant leap forward for a band that truly defies categorization.

Take a Look: Complete on Columbia
Take a Look: Complete on Columbia
Take a Look demonstrates how Aretha was born the “Queen of Soul,” paying loving care and attention to every facet of her years at Columbia. The package includes CDs of Aretha's seven full-length albums for Columbia; two CDs reflecting her collaborations with producers Bobby Scott (in 1963) and Clyde Otis (in 1964); and a bonus CD of singles produced by Bob Johnston and rarities that were "sweetened" and released after Aretha left the label. The set will also includes a DVD featuring Aretha, at the piano, performing several songs on The Steve Allen Show in 1964. Among the highlights of Take a Look is a previously unreleased version of Yeah!!! In Person With Her Quartet which strips away the artificial club ambience that was added to the album's studio performances, revealing Aretha at the peak of her powers. Another high point is an unreleased album called A Bit of Soul. Though it contains previously released material, the original album is presented here for the first time in its master form. Other revelations include riveting studio conversation between Aretha, John Hammond and pianist Ray Bryant during the making of Aretha's debut album in the summer of 1960. The lavish set will include a 48-page booklet, designed by Michael Boland, with never-before-seen photos by Columbia staff photographer Don Hunstein; an excerpt from John Hammond's 1977 autobiography, On Record, in which he reflects on the joy of discovering a singular talent and the heartbreak of losing her to Atlantic; and a newly commissioned essay by Daphne Brooks, a Professor of English & African American Studies at Princeton University and the author of Grace, about the making of the classic Jeff Buckley album, for the acclaimed 33 1/3 series (published by Continuum). The booklet will also include a complete discography of albums and singles, and tribute quotes from Aretha's soul sisters (including Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Dionne Warwick, Mavis Staples) and soul children (Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keyes. The set's producer, Leo Sacks, says: "The stunning performances on Take a Look demonstrate how Aretha Franklin paved the path to her own greatness. Here is the young Aretha planting the seedlings that would blossom a short time later at Atlantic Records. From standards to show tunes to bebop to blues, Take a Look captures a gritty soul about to take flight." Disc 12 –DVD Track Listing: 1. Lover Come Back To Me 2. Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody 3. Won’t Be Long 4. Skylark 5. Evil Gal Blues

Take The High Road
Take The High Road
MUSIC LEGENDS THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA RECORD COUNTRY GOSPEL ALBUM!Five-time Grammy Award winners The Blind Boys of Alabama's amazing spirit and soul is celebrated through songs as they team up with country music royalty to release TAKE THE HIGH ROAD, a powerful new album that explores the deep connections between traditional country and gospel music. Jamey Johnson, currently one of country music's most acclaimed and compelling artists, co-produced the album and performs on it along with guest artists Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Lee Ann Womack and The Oak Ridge Boys. This amazing country roster is further backed by an A-list of top Nashville studio musicians, with the result a stunning and powerful testament to the historic relationshipbetween these genres. The concept for the collaboration started with original Blind Boy Jimmy Carter's longstanding love of country music and his desire to do a traditional country-tinged gospel album. The idea blossomed when the Blind Boys were asked to curate a series of shows, including a country gospel night, at the prestigious Lincoln Center Festival last year, and was further ignited when the band met Johnson at the 2010 Alabama Music Hall of Fame dinner in Birmingham where they asked him to participate in the new album. The result is a remarkable recording of 13 songs, some time-tested and some brand new."There wasn't one person who didn't bawl like a baby or bust their heart open at least once," said Johnson in a recent New York Times interview, reflecting upon these historic Nashville sessions. New friendships formed quickly between the artists, and soulful sounds were crafted out of a shared love of real and authentic spiritual music. Recorded live in just a few days at the old RCA soundstage, this album has the soulful feel of an old-school country-gospel classic.

It Takes a Thief
It Takes a Thief
Dynamic DJ duo Thievery Corporation have announced the release of their first best of album, It Takes A Thief, coming out on ESL Music on September 21st. The album is a collection of tracks specially selected by Rob Garza and Eric Hilton for longtime fans and for music lovers who have heard of Thievery Corporation but may have never listened to the band. It Take A Thief features Lebanese Blonde, the beautiful song used on the Grammy award-winning Garden State Soundtrack, as well as Sound the Alarm, the funk infused track that has become a staple opening track for the band s live shows. We ve always been a little hesitant of putting together a retrospective cd, Rob Garza said. But looking back and realizing it s been almost 15 years since we started, we figured maybe now is the time. These tracks are some of our favorite moments. Thievery Corporation has released 5 studio albums to date and has sold over 1.5 million records since 1998. Thievery s tracks have been licensed for film, tv and advertisements including True Blood, Entourage, Six Feet Under, CSI, Skyy Vodka, Jaguar, Lexus, EA Sports and many others. They have collaborated with a diverse number of artists from The Flaming Lips to Femi Kuti, and remixed a spectrum of artists from the Doors to David Byrne. Their infectious live show features 15 musicians and a carousel of performers unlike any other live band playing today. In 2009, Thievery Corporation sold out 2 nights at New York s Terminal 5, and recently finished a 13 date European tour including Morocco, Rome, Athens, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam. The band is preparing to announce a major US tour for the fall of 2010 and is recording a new album to be released in 2011.

Take a Look Around
Take a Look Around
With an impressive resume in rap that includes membership in the legendary Juice Crew (along with Marley Marl, MC Shan, Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shante, and Craig G) and a verse on the 1988 classic posse cut "The Symphony", Brooklyn's Masta Ace is truly an underappreciated rap veteran and underground luminary. Two years after "The Symphony", Ace released his debut album "Take a Look Around" on rap's version of the Motown label, Cold Chillin' Records. The album spawned a hit single and video for "Me and the Biz" which popped up on many popular rap video shows in the late 90s for nostalgia's sake and featured the now infamous Biz Puppet. The album has Marley Marl's keen production aura all over it, and features choice cuts from D.J. Mister Cee, Big Daddy Kane's DJ, who in later years would be The Notorious B.I.G.'s DJ and a well-known New York radio personality. "Take A Look Around" would prove to be Ace's only album released on Cold Chillin', but it was only the beginning of his colorful career in music. He would go on to release "Slaughtahouse" in 1993 and "Sittin' On Chrome" in 1995, both on Delicious Vinyl and both under the moniker 'Masta Ace Incorporated.' Later, he would release "Disposable Arts" on Yosumi Records in 2002, and "A Long Hot Summer" in 2004 on M3 Macmil Music. Although Master Ace's style would change significantly with his subsequent releases, he always brought albums to the table that appealed to a wide range of Hip Hop listeners. Cold Chillin' Records and Traffic Entertainment Group proudly present Master Ace's "Take A Look Around", available for the first time as a double disc set, including the original album, and a plethora of substantial bonus material, from artwork to audio. With all the songs being digitally re-mastered, and all the additional photography being supplied by the man who took the photos (George DuBose), this project has been thought out, done right and handled with care, and we hope you enjoy it.
